Cardiac volumes and measurements

Quantitative cardiac volumes and measurements can obtained for the left and right ventricles and include the following :

• end-diastolic diameter
• interventricular septum thickness
• end-diastolic volume (EDV) [mL] and end-diastolic volume index (EDVI) [mL/m]
• end-systolic volume (ESV) [mL] and end-systolic volume index (LV ESVI) [mL/m]
• stroke volume [mL] and stroke volume index (LV SVI) [mL/m]
• ejection fraction (LV EF) [%]
• cardiac output and cardiac index
• ventricular mass[g] and mass index [g/m]*

Cardiac parameters derived from velocity-encoded imaging are typically obtained in the aorta and main pulmonary artery, but can be also obtained for the atrioventricular valves or atrial septal defects and ventricular septal defects:

• antegrade and retrograde flow volumes
• regurgitant fraction
• peak velocity
• mean velocity
