fetal limb bowing

Fetal limb bowing may be a feature of skeletal dysplasia, particularly if it is severe. A mild degree of lateral bowing of the femur can occur as part of normal variation.

Conditions associated with fetal limb bowing include:

• campomelic dysplasia
• thanatophoric dysplasia : particularly type I
• certain variants of perinatal lethal hypophosphatasia, e.g. campomelic-like
• dyssegmental dysplasia
• certain types of osteogenesis imperfecta, e.g. type II (tends to have additional fractures), type III
